Background

Florida’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jeff Atwater has announced his retirement after the 2017 Legislative Session.

Governor Rick Scott will appoint a new CFO soon and Jacksonville’s Mayor Lenny Curry is one of the finalists for this position.

The CFO is a member of the Florida Cabinet. It is a powerful statewide position and cabinet positions are often used as stepping stones to higher political office, including governor or federal offices. Many people believe that Mayor Curry aspires to hold one of these higher offices.

Lenny Curry is a very attractive and likable person with a very nice family. However, there are very serious concerns regarding his possible appointment as CFO, primarily

What are the Issues with Lenny Curry?

Lenny has proven that he is not a principled conservative and is not willing to fight for what is right.

As the former head of the Republican Party of Florida, Lenny has become the darling candidate of the GOP establishment, but he is not reform minded. This is a politician who is trying to please everyone. He appears to be more concerned with what the left thinks about him than the conservative base who helped get him elected.

Unfortunately, Lenny is earning a reputation as a “Charlie Crist” Republican and one that doesn’t need to be promoted to a statewide office, where he could make unsound decisions which would affect all of Florida’s families and residents.

Lenny cannot be trusted and betrayed local Jacksonville voters by promising several people he would veto any HRO but when the time came, he failed to deliver on this promise.

By executive order, he created special rights for people claiming to be gay and transgender in city government trampling on the rights of thousands of other employers and vendors associated with the City of Jacksonville.

Lenny’s refusal to veto the deceptive and unconstitutional “Human Rights Ordinance” (HRO) in Jacksonville puts women and children in danger by allowing men to use women’s showers, locker rooms, and bathrooms in domestic violence shelters and in other non-profit charities with residential facilities.

If politicians are not willing to fight for laws which defend our first and most fundamental liberty, religious freedom, and they are not willing to fight to protect the dignity, security, and safety of women and children when showering and dressing in intimate spaces, then we are not interested in them serving as elected officials.

Public Interest Law Firm Releases Legal Memo Documenting Jax HRO Cannot Become Law Before February 28

—

PRESS ADVISORY

Jacksonville Women to Rally at City Hall on Wednesday Continuing to Urge Mayor Lenny Curry to Veto HRO which Allows Men to Use Women’s Bathrooms

(Jacksonville, FL) Liberty Counsel, a national public interest constitutional law firm with offices in Florida, released a three-page legal memorandum today documenting the fact that Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry can still legally veto the Human Rights Ordinance (HRO) 2017-15. The HRO, passed by the City Council last week, can still be vetoed by Mayor Curry because it is not final law until after the next City Council meeting on Tuesday, February 28, 2017.

The research and memo was prepared by attorney Roger Gannam, Assistant Vice President of Legal Affairs and long-time Jacksonville resident, in light of the misinformation being distributed to the media by the mayor’s office. The Office of General Counsel has erroneously claimed that the HRO is final law because it passed with a super majority and the mayor is unable to veto it. The legal memo clearly demonstrates this is incorrect after a review of the City Charter provisions.

The summary states:

“The City Charter does not allow the mayor to give an ordinance immediate effect without his signature.

Mayor Curry’s announcement that he will allow the HRO to become law without his signature does not give the HRO immediate effect.

Mayor Curry still has the power to veto the HRO at or before the February 28th City Council meeting.”

The full legal memorandum can be read here.

Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. recently released a list of 21 bathroom abuse incidents around the country as a direct result of policies like the ones contained in the Jacksonville HRO which give biological men a new right to use women’s showers, locker rooms, and bathrooms. That list can be found here.

BACKGROUND:

The City Council of Jacksonville is currently moving to pass a so-called “Human Rights Ordinance” which will create new protected classes for the categories of sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. These laws in other cities have been used as weapons to punish citizens for simply exercising their religious views and free speech within their own businesses and in private property ownership. These same laws are also being used to allow fully biological men who either cross dress or subjectively claim they feel they are women to have complete access to women’s bathrooms, showers and locker rooms. Another bill in the City Council proposes largely the same ordinance but would place it on the ballot allow the people of Jacksonville to accept or reject. One of these bills will pass out of the City Council. A similar bill was recently rejected in a referendum by the people in Houston, Texas. For more information check out www.DefendJaxFamilies.com

On November 3, Houston citizens repealed an unpopular LGBT law like that proposed for Jacksonville.

Despite LGBT lobbyist armies and media saturation, outraged voters struck back with an overwhelming
61-39% referendum majority.

The ordinance had created a public hazard and elevated LGBT’s to a special rights status over other citizens.

Voters, more astute than their elected masters, knew this law was a public danger – it allowed any man, claiming female gender, to enter the public dressing, bath, and locker rooms of women and children.

It was dubbed the Sex Criminal Protection Law. Predators exploit such opportunities [1] – as Jacksonville knows well. [2]

After Houston passed the 2014 law, the outgoing mayor and her city attorney conspired to prevent the referendum sought by opponents. The lesbian mayor even subpoenaed the sermons of opposing pastors.

The Texas Supreme Court, following court actions, halted the corruption, ordering the referendum.

Locals had to overcome an invading horde of immensely wealthy outside LGBT pressure groups and their professional lobbyists chosen for their local connections.

LGBT propaganda failed despite a $3.5 million, 6-fold spending advantage – $500,000 from ACLU alone.

DC-based Human Rights Campaign (HRC) spent a fortune maintaining its 34-activist army – salaries, housing, travel, expenses. That army is now relocating to Jacksonville and Charlotte to expand those stealth HRC operations which the press won’t report.

As in Jacksonville, some Houston businesses turned against the community, unjustly calling it bigoted, and collaborated in the national LGBT power grab. They were duped by HRC’s preposterous “LGBT laws are good for business” myth. And they fell for the “LGBT civil rights” hoax – in reality a ploy to make government outlaw opposition to LGBT lifestyles.

Ultimately, the public won a crushing victory over an unholy gang of treacherous lawmakers, the ACLU and the nationwide LGBT attack machine which never even proved its bogus claim of discrimination.

Nationally, the ramifications are monumental. Limitless LGBT forces utilized every weapon imaginable fueled by vast expenditures, yet suffered a colossal public rebuke which broke its dissolute grip on America, jeopardizing its scheme to chain the U.S. in LGBT favoritism laws.

Like Atlantic Beach’s ousting of lawmakers, Houston’s grassroots revolution is a clarion warning to Jacksonville officials: Enact this unnecessary law and a costly, divisive referendum may follow.

And your political careers will be over.
