The Museum of Science and History (MOSH) is scheduled to host a Gay Pride event complete with performances by drag queens and lectures called Trans 101, Bisexual 101, and even Coming Out Monologues for children of all ages.

URGENT REQUEST FOR HELP:

OPERATION PANHANDLE VOTES

We need 50-100 men and women to be volunteers or hired to drive

over the next 7 days to the Hurricane devastated

regions of North Florida and participate in

“Operation Panhandle Votes”

There are thousands of families, retired veterans, single moms, seniors, and young couples whose lives and properties have been devastated as result of Hurricane Michael. Many of them are only eating one meal a day at a church or shelter feeding facility, sifting through the rubble of their destroyed home and or just living in hotels. We want to go to them directly and offer a sandwich, a drink, a prayer and a ride to the polls.

And we need you to join us in this unprecedented project of the Florida Family Policy Council. Over the next 7 days, we are going to conduct a Herculean ground voter turnout operation.

THE FACTS:

1) We need 50-100 modestly paid individuals or volunteers willing to be trained and equipped and to live and work in North Florida during the six days from Thursday, November 1, through Tuesday, November 6.

2) Food, modest lodging, transportation, and fuel reimbursement will be provided from Tallahassee, Florida to the area of work in the hurricane hit regions.

3) Days will be long, and the work will be between 9-10 hours a day.

4) You will be working with a larger team of FFPC supporters but will be working on your own, during the day (unless you bring your spouse or a helper).

5) The election is going to be very close and every Floridian needs the opportunity to vote and should not be hindered because of the personal physical losses of the hurricane.

Public Interest Law Firm Releases Legal Memo Documenting Jax HRO Cannot Become Law Before February 28

—

PRESS ADVISORY

Jacksonville Women to Rally at City Hall on Wednesday Continuing to Urge Mayor Lenny Curry to Veto HRO which Allows Men to Use Women’s Bathrooms

(Jacksonville, FL) Liberty Counsel, a national public interest constitutional law firm with offices in Florida, released a three-page legal memorandum today documenting the fact that Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry can still legally veto the Human Rights Ordinance (HRO) 2017-15. The HRO, passed by the City Council last week, can still be vetoed by Mayor Curry because it is not final law until after the next City Council meeting on Tuesday, February 28, 2017.

The research and memo was prepared by attorney Roger Gannam, Assistant Vice President of Legal Affairs and long-time Jacksonville resident, in light of the misinformation being distributed to the media by the mayor’s office. The Office of General Counsel has erroneously claimed that the HRO is final law because it passed with a super majority and the mayor is unable to veto it. The legal memo clearly demonstrates this is incorrect after a review of the City Charter provisions.

The summary states:

“The City Charter does not allow the mayor to give an ordinance immediate effect without his signature.

Mayor Curry’s announcement that he will allow the HRO to become law without his signature does not give the HRO immediate effect.

Mayor Curry still has the power to veto the HRO at or before the February 28th City Council meeting.”

The full legal memorandum can be read here.
